Carborundum is a collagraph printmaking method using a mixture of paint and grit to create textured, painterly printing plates. The plate is then prepared with non-toxic oil-based inks and printed on damp paper using a traditional etching press.
Fishergirl is a unique print, created by Isabel Wilkinson in her London studio, with several layers of monoprint and carborundum in contrasting vivid pink and dark green-black. The surface of the paper is subtly embossed and textured from the printing process.
This print is taken from the series Casting the Runes, inspired by the Thames foreshore and mudlarking.
