Sapele stool No9

135.00

One of eighteen unique one-off stools made as part of the 2016 "eighteen" project, where we used workshop off cuts to produce a collection of eighteen identical in form, but totally unique in material "milked stools"

This stool is one of 5 turned from the same piece of timber. We don't usually use exotic timbers. But whilst visiting our local wood yard several months ago, we came across a large piece of Sapele destined for the wood pile due to it being riddled with hundreds of tiny birdseye knots and cracks. Not much use for the outdoor furniture, window and boatbuilding industries for which the timber is purposed, but beautifully unique, and spectacularly characterful in small portions. The timber is extremely warm and dark, and is peppered with the captivating birdseye figure.

Hand turned from sustainably sourced hardwoods, quality of craft, and material beauty are of paramount importance, and highlighted through top wedged tenons and considered material matching. All stretchers are secured with delightful brass pins, which contrast beautifully with the timber, whilst providing strength and ensuring longevity.
